After the release of Twilight, the paranormal book genre seemed to explode. It of course existed pre-Twilight, but that seemed to be the turning point for mainstream culture.
With there being so many different variations of paranormal styles, I was very excited to check out the House of Night books by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.
Marked was a very different style than what I am used to in paranormal books. With that being said, I loved it! While this is definitely geared towards young adults/teenagers, I still enjoyed it immensely. I liked that becoming a fledgling/Vampyre is out of your control and isn’t caused by the stereotypical biting/feeding. Another aspect I liked it that fledglings/vampyres can have gifts bestowed on them by their goddess, Nix. I look forward to seeing how Zoey handles her new affinities to the elements.
Writing wise, this book is very easy to read. Everything flows together well and there is no confusion as to what is happening. The characters develop well individually and collectively throughout the book. I am eager to see how they develop throughout the series.
