January’s Once Upon a Book Club Young Adult Box. Spoilers ahead.
So first I have to give a huge shoutout to Once Upon a Bookclub for choosing a fantastic book as well as incredible gifts to make the story come alive. The shower curtain is my favorite.
This book was very well-written and captures your attention from the very beginning. It’s a quick and light-hearted read that is perfect to decompress with.
Mel is a normal high schooler, she falls in love and not all of the relationships work out. However, she also loves the theater and being a stage manager. She gets caught up in the superstitions of the theater and her team, and this causes her to try to make the ultimate sacrifice for herself and deny herself the love that she is feeling.
I love the way this book ties in love with loyalty and commitments. Mel tries so hard to make everyone happy that it backfires on her. And I love that she eventually realizes she needs to do what is best for her.
This is a great rom-com with humor thrown in!
