Perfect by Ellen Hopkins

Ellen Hopkins has a way of writing that is unparalleled. All of her books deal with tough and heart wrenching topics, and Perfect is no exception.

Relationships, sexuality, eating disorders, stalking, crime, pleas for help, suicide, and so many others are all involved in this book. The author’s way of writing makes it easy to grasp these topics and to feel what the characters are feeling. You experience the highs and lows with them, without even realizing how much time is passing as you read.

Without delving too in depth of each topic, Hopkins invokes feelings in the reader as they strive to understand what each character is going through. You can see the thought progression as each topic takes hold of you, and see how much each one is a struggle to handle.

The size of the book may intimidate, but it feels so much smaller than it is as you read.
